Before we get to what I actually want to talk about here, I would like to throw in a little blogger note. If you’ve followed my blog you’ll know that I have had a love/hate relationship with the WordPress phone app… Ok, full disclosure, it’s been all hate. Hate, to the point that I kinda sorta swore off the app as a whole. Well, I just downloaded and updated the app again. And I wrote (and edited) this entire post on the app. Now, I don’t want to put my foot in my mouth and say that it’s the most amazing thing in the world and that everything that I had previously said about it is now null and void… But I will say so far so good… Keep it up WordPress. PLEASE!
Now that I’ve gotten that one out of the way… It’s time for a rant. I have REALLY been down this past couple of weeks. To the point that I may or may not be taking it out on my roommate (sister) just a bit. I mean, it’s not entirely a bad thing, my frustration with her lately is definitely warranted, but if I weren’t so rungry I would probably internalize it more instead of being so vocal. Eh, gotta take the good with the bad I guess.
So yea… I’m rungry… Being run deprived is now officially on my mind so much so that it is keeping me up at night, and during the day when I get off of a night shift. A few of you know that I recently had a run-in with the Runner’s Gift That Keeps On Giving… Plantar Fasciitis (I REALLY want to add another F-word in there, but I try to keep my blog curse-free, mostly). Actually, I take that back. My doctor told me that I do not have Plantar Fasciitis, I have Plantar Fascia Tendinitis (I Googled it and still have no idea what the difference is)… And I also apparently have flat feet now (I need to research falling arches). Whoohoo!
I went in to see my doctor two months after I first noticed the injury because I assumed that it was plantar fasciitis, and also assumed that it would be gone after 4-ish weeks. He was delighted to inform me that it was just tendinitis but could still take months to heal….. Months….. Like, multiple 30-plus day periods… Usually I have something to say that kinda brings my posts full circle… Not this time. I’m pissed.
I have a freaking podiatrist appointment later this week where hopefully I’ll get a better answer than “ice them, stretch them, rest them, and call me in a month”. I’ve done some research, and apparently runners (well, elite runners) run and race with this injury all the time. How are these people able to do this crap when I have days where I can barely walk!? Ok, maybe not “days”, but there are definitely occasional parts in the day, mainly mornings, where my pain is a 7/8 on the pain scale (which has smiley faces on it for some stupid reason).
Lately it’s been a very cool 60-ish degrees here in the morning, and I’ve been stuck in my house, sulking. I’m at the point now where I’m seriously considering pushing through the pain (on my good days) and lacing up the running shoes to see if it helps.
Until Next Time, don’t pray for me, run for me!
P.S. Ok, let me try to brighten this rant up a bit. Looking through race photos I found this beaut. Granny, Mom, My sister, my sister’s friend, and I did an Aids walk/run and this is one of my favorite pictures from it… Afterwards my mother and granny said, in unison, “I wasn’t ready”. Mwahahaha I was. Also, I haven’t figured out how to embed videos here yet, but there’s a GREAT post-race party one of Granny shaking her tailfeather that I’ll try to put on my Instagram.
P.S.S. I’ve been eating like crap lately. Oh, and I’ve missed 4 races so far do (yep, that’s right, in my first draft I wrote “do” instead of “due”, it’s like having race-brain without the race!) to this “injury”.
Awww poor non-running Alphonso! So sad!
Ps: I really like this picture of you! Good choice

Hmmm… There is this achilles brace (soft and can by run with) made by Pro Tec that saved my life a couple of years ago when I was dealing with tendonitis. It takes a little of the pressure off the achilles and lifts the arch of the foot a little. Alternating heat and ice helped too.
Hope this helps. I have had recurring achilles tendonitis on and off for years….That sucks that you are going through this.
Love the picture, btw.

Thanks! I’ve ordered insoles so hopefully that helps a bit, and I’ll definitely be looking into the Achilles brace, it sounds like it might really help out a lot.
