I’m not going to make a habit of sharing screenshots of random online encounters… But this is a goodie. A blog buddy of mine posted a bit of a rant yesterday about a negative experience that she had in a blog group, and wouldn’t you know it, a couple hours later I had one of my own. I’ve talked about blog groups on here before, but I have yet to give them a good rant. January will be my blogiversary, so I’m still relatively new at this, and whenever anyone asks I refer to myself as a “newbie”. I get it if you want to call my credulence (regardless of what autocorrect says “credulence” is a word… Read a book, Android!) into question when it comes to blog-talk, but I feel like this is something that all bloggers would (or should) be able to relate to.
I HATE selfish bloggers. I really do. I have a guy (or at least one that I know of) who constantly likes my posts the instant that I post them, but he never actually reads them. I have people who stop by and leave generic completely unrelated comments on my posts just so that they can drop their link. In my eyes, and I repeat in my eyes if you are in these groups just to boost your stats, you’re in them for the wrong reasons.
I don’t get it. I use my blog as a way to get things off of my chest and connect with people. I REALLY like the fact that I have more than just a handful of followers, but only because I believe that the majority of them are actually interested in what I have to say. I don’t follow blogs unless I actually want to read them. I’m not boosting someone’s stats. Your fan base should be just that, fans. I’m starting to go down a bit of a rabbit hole here, let me reel it back in.
In one of the groups that I’m in a guy (who I have previously removed from a group that I run) has a blog which I have visited before but have no interest in. For one, I can’t stand trying to decipher broken English. I don’t care if it’s text talk, slang, horrible spelling, dirt poor grammar, or just an ESL blog. It’s rough. The second reason, his topic doesn’t interest me. Sue me! I (like the rest of the world) have a preference. I understand that my blog isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I don’t expect it to be. The third reason, this clown spams his link. O. M. G. I cannot describe how much of a deterrent that is for me.
You should know as you read these screenshots that there was a bit of confusion. I read “feedback on my music” as “feedback on my blog”. I dont know how I made that mistake, but if I would have noticed that the guy was asking for help with his music I wouldn’t have offered to help (It’s just not my lane) which would have saved us all from the follow on conversation. Somewhere in here the Special Guy (so fitting) says that he’s black and tries to play the race card. Um… I am not racist… Well, everyone is a little “racist” in the sense that we are aware of differences between races, but I do not look negatively at any race (Aside from from babies, undisciplined children, and untrained pets. Not races, but still, grow up, act right!).
Anyway, the point being that he’s black, and uses this as the reason that I’m choosing to help the other guy instead of him… Even though (contrary to what Special Guy thinks) both the other guy and myself are also black. So then, this guy decides to go ahead and ask for my “help” once more? And turns into a baby when I refuse. I’m going to have to make a post about Online Balls one of these days. Let me just say, I’m an 80s kid, not a “millennial”. I grew up watching and listening to WWF, WWE, Andrew Dice Clay, Eddie Murphy, The Kings Of Comedy, South Park, and various comedians on Comicview and Comedy Central. I’m WAY more insulted by how horrible his “insults” were than the actual content. How dare you bring that weak crap to the table!?
~
Until next time, don’t be The Special Guy.
P.S. This was a first draft post. I apologize. I’ll look it over and clean it up later today (hopefully) when I get to my computer. I wrote this on my phone, on the app, I just wanted to get this out there while the rant was on my mind.
P.S.S. I don’t think he got the “Bueller” comment.
Well he really truly was a “special guy”
what a jerk!!
Love the way you write and I am so with you on so many points
